A Gem of Miami Beach

Located directly on the ocean in the heart of Miami Beach, The Richmond Hotel is a boutique landmark. Situated between the historically iconic Raleigh Hotel and The South Seas Hotel, The Richmond will soon be reimagined as an emblem of elegance and luxury as part of the greater Raleigh redevelopment plan.

Originally designed by legendary Miami architect Lawrence Murray Dixon in 1941, The Richmond was one of the first hotels to be built directly on the ocean. The classically designed pool deck and tropical garden represent the charm and energy of the historic Art Deco Historic District, while the secluded location and sweeping palm trees provide privacy and freedom within.

The Richmond and its neighboring properties symbolize the perfect marriage of what has passed and what is to come.

Lawrence Murray Dixion

Lawrence Murray Dixon, aka L. Murray Dixon, was the most prolific architect in Miami during the 1930s and '40s. After starting his career in New York at Schultze and Weaver, best known for the Waldorf Astoria Hotel and Breakers Palm Beach, Dixon returned to his home state of Florida. Dixon has been called the principal architect of Deco South Beach, and he is the visionary behind over 40 hotels and 200 residential homes throughout Miami. Notable hotels include The Raleigh, The Tides, The Richmond and The South Seas Hotel. Although Dixon’s style was birthed out of the era of the Great Depression, his distinct Art Deco style became a trademark of the energized South Beach destination. Many of Dixon’s design details were inspired by the scenery and climate of his surroundings, giving the spaces an authentic and familiar feeling while celebrating the tropical hues of South Florida. Dixon’s legacy lives on with the preservation of the Art Deco style in Miami today.
