The Heart of the City,
The Soul of Aman

The Crown Building celebrates its century mark with its monumental transformation into Aman New York — the brand’s flagship hotel and residences, slated to open in 2020. Marking Aman’s first urban residences, a select offering of 20 private residences will be situated on top of the 85 suite hotel and provide its residents with the ultimate Aman experience in the heart of New York City.

Residents, Aman private club members, and hotel guests will enjoy access to the 25,000 square foot Aman Spa, featuring a dramatic 25-meter swimming pool surrounded by fire pits and daybeds. The Spa facility will also feature private Spa Houses, state-of-the-art gym facilities, a treatment room, sauna and steam rooms, as well as an outdoor terrace with cabanas, daybeds, and fireplaces.

Aman New York provides delectable culinary experiences from around the world, from Nama, Aman’s interpretation of Japan’s washoku dining tradition, to Arva, the convivial Italian restaurant that features outdoor seating on the Garden wraparound Terrace, overlooking Central Park. Music and entertainment are also at the center of this extraordinary property, with options ranging from a subterranean Jazz Club to the Piano Bar, as well as premier social opportunities at the Cigar Bar and the Wine Library.

“The Aman New York will pay homage to the building’s stately architecture and momentous history, as well as bringing the harmonious ethos, that the brand is known for, in the heart of one of the world’s most bustling metropolises.”

Jean-Michel Gathy, Denniston

SHVO’s Vision: Creating a new urban sanctuary in the heart of Manhattan.

SHVO purchased the iconic 1921 office and retail property together with its partners Brookfield Properties (previously GGP), Wharton Properties, and Capital Group in 2014. SHVO’s oversight of vacating the 350,000 square foot office portion of the building paved the way for this high profile residential and hotel conversion. As part of this acquisition, SHVO brought AMAN Hotel Group – the world’s preeminent luxury hotel brand – as a partner, in order to execute SHVO’s vision of creating a new urban sanctuary in the heart of Manhattan.

Working with architect Jean-Michele Gathy of Denniston, SHVO oversaw the programing and design of the Aman Hotel & Residences, including the building’s sprawling amenities such as the 3-story, 20,000 square foot Aman Spa, the Food & Beverage outlets, as well as the property’s other public spaces.

As part of the commitment to restoring the Crown’s iconic grandeur, SHVO has recreated the 10-foot tall rooster weathervane that was removed from the top of the building in 1942 as part of the war effort. SHVO’s commitment to returning this piece of the building’s history was met with resounding approval by the NYC Landmark Commission and allowed for construction to start in 2016.

Sales of the Aman Residences, which take place at the Aman hospitality suite at SHVO’s corporate offices on Fifth Avenue, have shattered records both in absolute sale prices and price per square foot, most notably with the record sale of the “Crown” penthouse.

The Property is currently under construction and the Aman Hotel and Residences are slated for completion in Q4 2020.

Crown Building penthouse in contract for whopping $180M

An unknown buyer has entered contract to buy the five-story penthouse at the Crown Building for $180 million. At $14,358 per foot, the price would also set a new record on a per foot basis, even when held up against the city’s most ambitious luxury developments. The penthouse features a piano lounge and gallery, game room, two kitchens, a wraparound terrace and two swimming pools, floor plans show.
